The Principal of Uganda Christian University (UCU), Mbale University College has reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to providing quality, Christ-centered education while strengthening partnerships and community engagement.
Speaking during an interview, the Principal described UCU Mbale as a strategic institution serving the Eastern Uganda region and a leading center for theological education. He noted that the College serves approximately twelve dioceses, training priests who become ambassadors of Christ and servant leaders in their communities.
He expressed profound appreciation to development partners, particularly Uganda Partners, for supporting theology students through scholarships, provision of laptops, and infrastructure development. He revealed that the College looks forward to constructing a dedicated place of worship and further strengthening theological training.
The Principal emphasized the institution’s continued investment in science education through well-equipped laboratories to support Church-founded schools and highlighted the expansion of the library with up-to-date resources to enhance research and learning.
He also noted the impact of the Social Sciences Department, which equips students to address community challenges, including mental health awareness and support. In addition, the Business Department prepares learners with practical competencies in accounting and marketing, while the Computing and Technology Department trains students to provide innovative solutions across sectors such as banking, manufacturing, education, and healthcare.
Reflecting on what makes UCU Mbale unique, the Principal pointed to its vibrant academic community and its active involvement in community engagement, particularly through partnerships with Mbale City authorities to address waste management challenges.
Looking ahead, he emphasized the importance of partnerships in enhancing infrastructure development, increasing student enrollment, facilitating staff and student mobility, and promoting collaborative research that contributes to the Church of Uganda and national development.
On what inspires him as Principal, he cited motivation, passion for nurturing young people with Christian values, and the desire to bring together people from diverse backgrounds to achieve a common purpose. He underscored that his ultimate goal is to see lives transformed through God’s work.
He concluded by celebrating the spirit of teamwork and dedication exhibited by staff and students, describing it as a source of hope and a driving force behind the College’s continued growth despite resource constraints.
“Our focus is to see God’s people transformed through quality education and Christian values,” he remarked.
