UCU Mbale Hosts Students for 2026 Insurance Week Outreach

Uganda Christian University (UCU), Mbale University College, hosted students from Mbale Secondary School and Mbale Progressive Secondary School during the Annual Insurance Week 2026, an initiative organized by the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda. The engagement, held at the university’s Mbale campus, aimed to expose learners to career opportunities and deepen their understanding of the insurance sector.

The interactive session brought together young learners eager to explore career pathways and gain insight into the evolving world of insurance. Addressing the students, the Acting Principal, Mr. Vincent Kisenyi, emphasized the importance of professional diversification in today’s competitive global environment. He encouraged them to pursue certificates in insurance as a valuable addition to their academic qualifications.

“We are living in a highly competitive world,” he noted. “It is important for young people to continuously build their capacity, brand themselves, and remain relevant in an ever-changing professional landscape.”

Mr. Kisenyi also underscored the importance of personal branding and strategic self-positioning. He urged students to position themselves across multiple disciplines rather than limiting their ambitions to traditional career paths. He challenged the perception that success lies only in professions such as medicine, noting that every field offers unique opportunities for growth and impact.

During his remarks, he revealed that Uganda Christian University has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda. The partnership aims to equip young people with practical skills and knowledge in insurance, preparing them to meet emerging industry demands.

Reflecting on institutional developments, Mr. Kisenyi highlighted the evolution of regulatory bodies in Uganda. He explained that while the Uganda Revenue Authority was once the primary regulatory institution, the establishment of the Insurance Regulatory Authority reflects the growing complexity of the financial and risk management sectors.

He further noted that as societies evolve, new risks continue to emerge, making insurance an increasingly critical field. “All these changes bring about risks that must be addressed,” he said. “Young people should be open-minded, willing to learn, and ready to adapt. Mistakes are part of growth, and every profession provides room for learning and improvement.”

The session concluded with an overview of various insurance packages, during which Mr. Kisenyi and other facilitators responded to students’ questions. The discussions offered practical insights into how insurance works, its relevance in everyday life, and the diverse career opportunities available within the sector.

The Annual Insurance Week continues to serve as an important platform for bridging the gap between academia and industry, inspiring students to explore emerging career paths and equipping them with the knowledge to navigate the future with confidence.
