UCU Main Campus UIS Team Completes Successful Digital Systems Training At UCU, Mbale University College

The University Information Systems (UIS) team from UCU Main Campus, led by Mrs. Rebecca Kangabe, has successfully concluded a four-day intensive training at UCU Mbale University College aimed at strengthening digital competence among staff and students in the use of the university’s online systems. The training, which started on Tuesday 5th May, 2026 and ended on Friday 8th May, 2026, focused on equipping participants with practical knowledge and skills in the use of Alpha, Moodle, accommodation management, billing systems, and course registration processes.

The training attracted active participation from both academic and administrative staff as well as students, who engaged in interactive workshops, live demonstrations, and hands-on practical sessions conducted by the UIS team. Participants were guided on how to navigate the Alpha system, enroll on Moodle, register courses, access academic records, generate fee statements, and manage accommodation applications.

Speaking during the training, Mrs. Rebecca Kangabe emphasized the importance of embracing digital systems in improving efficiency within the university. “The purpose of this training is to ensure that both staff and students are confident and comfortable using the university systems. Digital transformation is essential for effective service delivery and academic management,” she noted.

Students who had challenges accessing or operating the Alpha system were individually assisted throughout the sessions. By the end of the training, many of the technical issues affecting students had been resolved successfully. One student expressed appreciation for the support offered during the training, saying, “Many of us had difficulties with registration and accessing some services on Alpha, but the team has worked on our issues and guided us step-by-step. We are now able to use the system much better.”

Staff members also welcomed the initiative, noting that the training had improved their understanding of the systems and would help them perform their duties more efficiently. One staff member remarked, “The training has been very helpful because it has addressed many of the challenges we have been facing while handling academic and administrative processes. We are now more confident in using Alpha and Moodle.”

The session ended today with the presentation of the updated UCU Mbale University College website by the UIS team from UCU Main Campus. The newly restored and updated website excited members of staff at UCU Mbale University College, who welcomed the development as a major step toward improving communication, visibility, and access to information within the institution.

Speaking during the presentation, Mr. Son Twongyirwe stated, “Restoring and updating the website was one of our priorities because it is an important communication and information platform for the university. We are happy that it is now fully operational.”

On behalf of UCU Mbale University College, the Principal, Mr. Vincent Kisenyi, thanked the UIS team from UCU Main Campus for their commitment and support throughout the training. He appreciated the team for equipping staff and students with vital digital skills and for successfully restoring and updating the college website. “We are grateful to the UIS team for the great work and dedication demonstrated throughout this training. The knowledge shared with our staff and students, together with the restoration of our website, will greatly improve efficiency and service delivery at the college,” Mr. Kisenyi said.

Despite minor challenges such as intermittent internet connectivity and varying levels of digital literacy among some participants, the training was completed successfully. Participants demonstrated strong interest and commitment throughout the four-day engagement.

The successful completion of the training marks an important milestone in enhancing digital operations at UCU Mbale University College. The initiative has not only strengthened the capacity of staff and students to use university systems effectively but has also reinforced collaboration between the UCU Main Campus UIS team and the UCU Mbale University College community.
