Uganda Christian University (UCU) Mbale University College hosted students from Mbale Secondary School and Mbale Progressive Secondary School during the Annual Insurance Week 2026, an event organized by the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda (IRA). The engagement was held at the University’s Mbale campus and brought together learners eager to explore career opportunities and gain insight into the evolving world of insurance.
The Acting Principal of UCU Mbale University College, Mr. Vincent Kisenyi, addressed the students and emphasized the importance of professional diversification in today’s competitive global environment. He encouraged them to pursue certificates in insurance as an added advantage to their academic qualifications.
“We were living in a highly competitive world. It was important for young people to continuously build their capacity, brand themselves, and remain relevant in an ever-changing professional landscape,” he noted.
Mr. Kisenyi highlighted the significance of personal branding and self-development, urging students to position themselves strategically across multiple disciplines rather than limiting their ambitions to traditional career paths. He challenged the perception that success was confined to professions such as medicine, reminding students that every field presented unique opportunities for growth and impact.
During his address, he also revealed that Uganda Christian University had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda. The partnership was intended to equip young people with practical skills and knowledge in insurance, preparing them to meet emerging industry demands.
Reflecting on institutional developments, Mr. Kisenyi explained that while Uganda had previously had only a few regulatory bodies, the establishment of the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda reflected the growing complexity of the financial and risk management sectors.
He further observed that as societies evolved, new risks continued to emerge, making insurance an increasingly important field. He encouraged students to remain open-minded, embrace continuous learning, and adapt to changing professional environments, noting that mistakes formed an essential part of personal and career growth.
The session concluded with a comprehensive overview of various insurance products and services. Mr. Kisenyi and other facilitators responded to students’ questions, providing practical insights into how insurance worked, its relevance in everyday life, and the diverse career opportunities available within the sector.
The Annual Insurance Week served as an important platform for strengthening the relationship between academia and industry. It inspired students to explore emerging career paths while equipping them with knowledge and skills to navigate the future with confidence.
