On 7 May 2026, Uganda Christian University Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Chairperson of the Organizing Committee for the 2026 Uganda Martyrs’ Day Celebrations at the Anglican Site, Prof. John Mulindwa Kitayimbwa, together with the Director of Communication and Public Relations, Mrs. Harriet Adong Atuyambe, hosted a team from Nation Media Group for a guided tour of the ongoing works and developments at the site.
The media team visited the venue to document the progress and preparations ahead of this year’s celebrations.
With support from the Government of the Republic of Uganda, partners, friends, and well-wishers, Uganda Christian University is undertaking several key improvements, including:
• Installation of state-of-the-art sanitation facilities, including unique pedal-powered flush toilets, bathrooms, dustbins, and hand-washing sinks
• Expansion of water supply through a 50,000-litre solar-powered water tank
• Improvement of lighting within and around the site, with branded poles to complement UCU publicity efforts
• Paving walkways and cleaning driveways within the site
• Facelifting buildings across the Anglican Martyrs’ Site
• Renovation and reconstruction of the perimeter wall surrounding the site
• Beautification of the amphitheatre and the Martyrs’ Museum
• Enhanced branding and information-sharing infrastructure within and around the site
• Refurbishment and installation of directional signages to improve pilgrims’ experience
• Installation of a digital billboard to strengthen communication before, during, and after the celebrations
• Replanting of grass, palms, and flowers to enhance the beauty and greenery of the site
• Varnishing and preservation of artistic pieces within the site
• Labelling of key spaces and facilities for easier navigation
More developments are still underway as preparations continue.
