Uganda Christian University (UCU) Mbale University College, through its 17th Guild Government, successfully conducted the Save a Buddy Campaign, an initiative aimed at supporting financially challenged students to continue with their education. The campaign reflected the University’s commitment to Christian values of compassion, service, and community by encouraging members of the UCU family to stand together in support of one another.
Held under the theme “Be the Help a Friend Needs,” the campaign mobilized students, staff, alumni, parents, guardians, and other well-wishers to make voluntary contributions towards assisting colleagues who faced financial difficulties. Recognizing that tuition challenges often threatened students’ academic progress, the initiative sought to ensure that deserving students remained in school and completed their studies.
Speaking on behalf of the Guild Government, the Guild President emphasized that education should never be interrupted because of financial hardship when a united community could make a difference. He noted that every contribution, regardless of its amount, represented hope and an opportunity for another student to pursue their academic dreams.
The Dean of Students applauded the Guild Government for spearheading the initiative and commended everyone who responded generously to the call. He noted that the campaign reflected the University’s mission of nurturing not only academic excellence but also a culture of love, empathy, and shared responsibility among students.
Throughout the campaign, members of the University community demonstrated remarkable generosity by contributing towards the tuition needs of fellow students. The initiative served as a reminder that collective action could transform lives and that even the smallest contribution had the potential to keep a student’s dream alive.
Beyond providing financial assistance, the Save a Buddy Campaign strengthened the spirit of unity and belonging within the University community. It encouraged students to look beyond their individual needs and embrace the biblical principle of bearing one another’s burdens. The campaign also reinforced the message that success at UCU is built not only on academic achievement but also on compassion, integrity, and service to others.
The success of the campaign stood as a testament to the power of solidarity and reaffirmed Uganda Christian University Mbale University College’s commitment to developing graduates who are academically competent, spiritually grounded, and socially responsible. Through initiatives such as Save a Buddy, the University continued to demonstrate that together, every member of the community could make a lasting difference in the life of another.
