Theology Finalists Convened for a Transformative Retreat at UCU Mbale University College Library

The Theology Department, under the leadership of Rev. Daniel Okello Nakoli who is the departmental coordinator together with the College Administration led by Ag. Principal Mr. Vincent Kisenyi, organized a one-day retreat for finalist students held at the college library. The retreat was carefully designed to provide a moment of reflection, spiritual renewal, and practical preparation as the students get ready to transition into active ministry within the Church and the wider community.

The retreat brought together experienced and inspiring voices, including the Guest speaker Rt Rev. Dr. Nicholas Engwalas Okille, the retired Bishop of Bukedi Diocese, and Mr. Akampurira Timothy, the College Academic Registrar. Their messages centered on shaping the students into grounded, humble, and service driven leaders who understand the true meaning of ministry.

Addressing the finalists, Mr. Akampurira Timothy emphasized the importance of selfless service, reminding them that ministry is not about personal gain but about commitment to God’s people. “You are not called to serve for what you receive from Christians, but for what God accomplishes through you in their lives,” he noted. He further reassured them of their preparedness, adding, “You have been equipped adequately go out and serve with confidence, and let your character reflect the values you have been taught.”

He also encouraged the students to uphold strong moral standards as they step into leadership roles within the Church. “The world is watching you as ministers. Let your conduct, your words, and your actions reflect the discipline and integrity instilled in you,” Mr. Kamara urged, emphasizing the responsibility that comes with their calling.

In the address of the guest speaker, Rt Rev. Dr. Nicholas Engwalas Okille, delivered a profound message centered on humility and devotion to God’s work. “True ministry begins when you empty yourself and allow God to work through you for the sake of others,” he shared. He further cautioned the finalists against pride and self-centeredness, noting, “Pride will distance you from God’s people; humility will draw you closer to them and to God’s purpose.” He encouraged them to remain steadfast in God’s word and to embrace a life of service beyond self as they begin their ministry journeys.

A reflective and hopeful note was delivered by Rev. Okello Daniel the Theology Coordinator, with students encouraged to remain steadfast in their faith and committed to God’s word. “As you prepare to step into the next phase of your journey, the message remains clear, you are called to serve with humility, integrity, and unwavering devotion, we therefore urge you to uphold the morals instilled in you but also exercise resilience’’

The retreat concluded with a moment of recognition, where outstanding student leaders were awarded certificates in appreciation of their dedication, commitment, and hard work throughout their time in the Theology Department. This gesture not only celebrated their contributions but also inspired the entire cohort to continue serving with excellence, integrity, and a deep sense of calling as they step into the future.

“May you go forth as faithful servants, ready to impact lives and communities through Christ-centered leadership” Rt Rev. Dr. Nicholas Engwalas Okille concluded.
